The advent of cameras was probably one of the biggest turning points in the entire human history. The presence of cameras meant that not everything can get out of sight right now, literally. Capturing instances was made a lot easier, especially with the advancements like the SLR Camera.
The beginning of the journey of cameras wasn’t exactly smooth. First of all, the first few cameras were not even portable. The extreme bulkiness of the cameras made it incredibly difficult to carry around from one place to another.
The technology was developed and gradually, smaller and convincingly portable cameras were created. The DSLR Camera is possibly one of the greatest inventions in the camera fraternity. Everyone loved the basic concept of these SLR Cameras.
These cameras were not that difficult to use. Coming from the amateurs to professionals as well, these cameras were pretty much made for everyone to use. The manual and auto modes both would help out with learning the trade easily as well as the experimentation part as well.
However, there is a lot going on inside an SLR Camera or DSLRs as well. The DSLRs are nothing but known as Digital SLR Cameras. The main difference between both these cameras is that the SLR Cameras have a film reel on which the image is imprinted.
But, in the case of Digital SLR Cameras, the light coming from the target is in fact captured with the help of an electronic image sensor. The first such electronic image sensor was the Charge Coupled Device sensor.
What happens inside an SLR Camera?
SLR Cameras are known as Single-Lens Reflex Camera. The modern ones are obviously known as DSLRs or Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras. The SLR Cameras have a relatively bulky size compared to the Digital and Mirrorless Cameras right now.
The SLR or DSLR Cameras usually follow a mirror and a prism mechanism to capture the images successfully. The entire setup is a bit complicated to replicate since quite a few things are going on.
Firstly, there is an optical viewfinder. An optical viewfinder is nothing but the slot where the photographer will be able to have a look at what they are about to click. The preview of the image will confirm a lot of things for the photographer before they go ahead with the photo.
This particular optical viewfinder works only for the mirror and prism mechanism that is present inside the camera. The mirrors and the prism are arranged in such a way that the light entering the lens will fall on these.
The reflection finds its way to the optical viewfinder where the photographer will be able to see and click the image. Once they are about to hit the button to snap the image, the first mirror itself moves.
After the movement of the mirror, the light falls on the shutter instead of getting reflected back by the mirror itself on to the other ones. The button also lets the shutter open for whatever the settings are set on.
The light falls on the electronic sensor if it is a DSLR camera or else the film reel if it is an SLR camera. Accordingly, the image gets etched on the film reel or else gets digitally stored in a storage device.
Afterward, the film reel is developed so that the image comes out. In the case of a DSLR, the image is stored on the memory storage device, either internal or external. From there, it can be developed and shared accordingly.
