Yes, it is true! Nikon has left Brazil for good. Nikon Brazil issued an official statement declaring that it had ended all of its sales and operations in Brazil with effect from September 2018 – which is lesser than a year after it stopped all online sales in Brazil on Nov 2017.
According to Brazilian photographer Renato Murakami, Brazil has a horrible market for foreign companies because of its confusing rules on electronics sales and the ever-growing grey market. He further added that sometimes people just prefer to fly to Miami and purchase cameras since it is both lesser in price and quality assured to get it from the USA as compared to buying the same in Brazil.
While Canon Brazil is still flourishing in this area with a population of more than 210 million, Nikon has suffered the huge loss in the past times owing it to the foreign company policies and the grey market of this country.
For the existing customers in Brazil who have valid warranties on photography equipment shall be honored by the Nikon mothership and whosoever needs assistance and repair requests can continue by submitting on the website’s form.
